OX2

Envisioning the future and strengthening foresight capability with scenarios

Foresight | Strategy | Sustainable business development

November 2025

In the rapidly changing energy market, strategic thinking and the ability to anticipate and respond quickly to shifts in the operating environment are critical for success. The aim of the collaboration between OX2 and After Advisory was to identify the key future drivers and moments for action, while strengthening OX2’s organisational foresight capability.

Clarifying the outlook to 2035

OX2 is an international energy company that develops and operates renewable energy projects, especially wind power. In Finland, OX2 is a forerunner in advancing the green energy transition and enabling renewable electricity. Because development projects can take up to ten years, numerous shifts may occur in the operating environment along the way.

The partnership with After stemmed from OX2’s need to identify the critical variables shaping its future business environment over the next decade. Another goal was to strengthen the foresight capability of its expert organisation: the ability to spot trends and weak signals and interpret their relevance from OX2’s business perspective.

Collaborative scenario work to envision the future and identify trends

The work began with a PESTE analysis mapping the factors influencing OX2’s operating environment: exploring political, economic, social, technological and environmental perspectives. We identified the most significant signals for OX2’s business and built narrative scenarios around them in two scenario workshops.

During the workshops, OX2 experts explored potential business opportunities within different futures and assessed the likelihood of each scenario. In shared discussions we mapped how various futures might look from OX2’s point of view. Participants noted that the process brought “courage to think big”, “insight into how different events could affect business”, and “new business ideas”.
